If you’re familiar with Ray Liotta’s career, you might have seen the commercials for his latest project Shades of Blue, and thought it was familiar ground for Liotta. The actor, who is known for cult projects like Goodfellas, Field of Dreams, Cop Land, and Narc, has played his fair share of dirty cops and intimidating characters over the years, but Shades of Blue stood out.
Liotta found an interesting arc that made him say yes to NBC’s newest show, which just so happened to be the network’s best debut in seven years. On Shades of Blue, the New Jersey native plays a controlling and corrupt boss named Lt. “Woz” Wozniak. While the show is mainly about Jennifer Lopez, Liotta’s talent shines in a way that makes the actor an important part of the show, without taking away from its main star.
Ray Liotta sat down at the AOL studio to speak about what made him return to television, and what it’s like to work with Jennifer Lopez.
On why he took on television with Shades of Blue:
I was looking to do a 13 episode type thing just to have some consistency with work, and to help with the movies. It’s changed a lot — when I first started in the 70s and 80s, if you were doing television, you were going out to pasture. Now movie people are looking towards these cable shows. I read this and I really liked it. Jennifer, I didn’t know — in terms of her doing edgy stuff, I hadn’t seen anything, so that was a question, but when they had Barry Levinson directing the pilot and the second episode, I thought I would give it a shot.
On how Shades of Blue was pitched to him:
The character is extremely different and it will unfold itself as the time goes on. It was just the script. I didn’t want to be in “the J.Lo show.” I didn’t want to be the guy behind the desk, telling everybody else to do something. The script had some really interesting things that shocked me. Then I met the show runner and he showed me what direction they were going in. I saw that the character was really involved, and intricate. So, I decided to do it.
On his dynamic with Jennifer Lopez:
You just play make believe. You do what you’re supposed to do. We didn’t have a lot of rehearsal time, but I’ve been doing this for a long time. Some of it, what’s in the script, gave us an idea of what was going to happen in the future. You just go with that. Jennifer is great — she’s a real pro.
On consulting real cops for various roles:
A couple of episodes they did [consult], which is helpful to talk to them, because it’s fascinating what a cop does. I’m just so pro-cop. I know there’s been some incidents, but most cops are good and it’s a really tough job. Early on in my career, I would do ride alongs with actual cops in LA. It [...]

Before the internet was a thing there was the little black book. It was the place where you stored the phone numbers of your dates and potential dates, called up friends and flings for booty calls, and bragged to your friends about your dating life.
With the popular increase in the internet, the little black book has become more advanced and a hell of lot more useful.
The RaterDater app allows users to set their own customized criteria for ranking dating prospects.
Using the apps customized criteria, you can store your prospects, make notes about them and even add other dates that may affect their ranking.
We live in the Tinder age and for many people that means going on a lot more dates before they find “the one.” I have a friend who recently told me she went on 85 dates last year. With all those dates she couldn’t possibly keep track of potential boyfriends.
RaterDater bills itself as a solid way to analyze your compatibility with a multitude of people, making it easier to cut through the bad dates and find people you might like to connect with for a second or third chance at love.
Here’s a montage of screenshots from the app:
As you can see the app allows users to add “must haves” and “nice to haves” along with a spot for a “major bonus.”
The app rates your dates based on a point scale you have created and the notes section is great for quick reminders about important parts of your date.
You can even put in the location of your first date and note if you met the person online, over the phone, or in person.
If you’re hoping to keep information private, the app features a username and login screen.
It’s pretty amazing how far the little black book has come over the years.
Here’s a quick video of the RaterDater app:
Some users might disagree with the idea of rating dates on a point scale, but let’s face it, if you met on Tinder or Blendr, or some other social media based app, they rated you before you even sat down to meet.
RaterDater is available for iOS and Android and it costs $1.99.

In last week’s episode of the law drama The Good Wife, viewers saw Alicia Florrick deal with an unfathomable blow on top of years of turmoil. Not only did she pick herself up from her estranged husband’s very public infidelity, she also had to mourn the loss of her colleague, best friend and lover Will Gardner. Just when she thought she had her best foot in front of her, her husband’s former campaign advisor admitted that he had deleted a voice mail years ago from Will that was intended for Alicia.
Back then, Alicia had decided to not continue on with her own side affair, even though she wondered about her law school romance turned colleague for years. This was during a time where putting on the image of “the good wife” to her ex, seemed like a better route. Couple that with the fact that Will seemed to flip flop on committing himself to her, and Alicia saw no choice but to take the other route. So, the message that she received from Will saying that he would drop everything to be with her, was never heard, and Alicia just continued on her path.
Viewers were shocked to see this plot point, which seemed way behind the arc of this season, come back into the story. Eli (Alan Cumming) decided to reveal this huge shocking revelation to Alicia after he received his own personal hard blow in the romance department. The moment itself was tense and clearly shows just why Julianna Margulies has racked up Emmys and Golden Globes for her portrayal.
In tonight’s episode she will deal with the fall out from the shocking moment.
Julianna Margulies sat down in the AOL Studio for a chat about her views on gun control, and that powerful moment on The Good Wife.
On being involved in advocating for gun control:
I went to DC and spoke at a summit there, so I’ve been very involved. What I find so fascinating about this whole topic is that everyone who is pro gun, is anti-abortion, so they’re all pro-life, but they’re killing everybody. None of it makes sense to me — that we wouldn’t just have common sense laws.
On Obama taking executive order against gun control:
Despite the fact that Sandy Hook should have been the reason people jump to it when you see six year olds getting gunned down in school, but the fact that president Obama came out and took executive action made me proud to be an American. It made me proud that I voted for him. I know it was a very hard thing for him to do and it’s important, because there’s so many naysayers and horrible, toxic comments about what he’s trying to achieve, which has nothing to do with your second amendment right. It was to show the rest of the world that this country isn’t as crazy as Trump is making us out to seem. We’re a thinking, feeling democracy and we can take reasonable action.
On shooting the pivotal moment with [...]

With every season of American Horror Story, creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy takes his recurring cast of players and brings someone new into the mix. For American Horror Story: Hotel it was Lady Gaga and Cheyenne Jackson.
While Jackson had collaborated with Murphy on his hit FOX show Glee, he hadn’t been a part of the American Horror Story cast, but fortunately he fits right in playing Will Drake, a fashion designer who just purchased the fabulous Downtown LA hotel, which just so happens to be haunted by demons and ghosts, one which happens to be James Patrick March portrayed by series regular Evan Peters.
In this season Jackson shares some of his scenes with Lady Gaga, who was just nominated for a Golden Globe for her role as The Countess in the series. On the show Gaga makes her television debut as 115-year-old vampire, who’s obsessed with blood and of course, having passionate romps.
Cheyenne Jackson stopped by AOL to have a chat about what it’s like working with Lady Gaga and highlighted how it feels to be the new kid on the block.

On coming into an established show:
Anytime you’re the new kid in a cast, it can be a daunting thing. This show in particular — it’s Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Denis O’Hare, these amazing actors, so I was definitely intimidated. The good thing is that I knew a lot of them prior. You just have to hit the ground running. My first scene was with Kathy Bates and I was totally scared to death, but you kind of just had to go with it.
On working with Lady Gaga:
Listen, it’s Lady Gaga, and I’m not going to lie, it was crazy. I’m a huge fan of hers. I had seen her live five times in every incarnation. I knew we were going to be married on the show, so I wanted to make a good impression, but wanted to be myself. I was in my dressing room, and it was right before my first big scene with her. It was this big, emotional, sexy scene and I called my husband and said, “I’m so nervous. I’m going to meet her in a minute.”
So I go on set and she’s behind this scrim. I saw her and she was fully in character and said, “Will Drake!” And she held her hand out for me to kiss [it]. And I thought, “She’s already in character? Should I be in character? What’s going on!?” So I grab her hand and I bow to kiss [it] and she said, “I’m not going to make you kiss my hand!” And she gave me a hug, and was super cool. She’s just down — she wants to play and create.
On watching Gaga act:
I wasn’t surprised that she was good, because she’s good at everything she does. It’s so cool to see someone throw themselves into [...]

American Crime has been a controversial yet nuanced show created by John Ridley on the different facets about society, and the cracks that are exposed within people. At the center of the first two seasons is actress Felicity Huffman, who has garnered award nominations for her turn as the polarizing racist character Barb Hanlon in American Crime’s first season.
In the second, Huffman portrays Leslie Graham, a woman put in the middle of a rape scandal, whose job it is to protect her private midwestern school, when a mother accuses someone or a group of teens on the basketball team of sexually molesting her son during the captain’s party. While the premise might sound like an after school special, with Ridley’s hand, the show looks and feels like a perspective that hasn’t yet been shown on television.
Breaking down the constructs of what sexual assault looks like between genders, Ridley has created yet another season that explores an important issue that isn’t usually shown on primetime network television.
The premiere, which happened on January 6, was so riveting that it trended on social media throughout its entire run, and even saw a bump in the ratings from last season.
Creator John Ridley and actress Felicity Huffman sat down in the AOL studio for a chat about constructing the second season of American Crime.

On creating a controversial show that’s reflective of society:
John Ridley: Felicity and I went into that pilot and thought, “Let’s just do this. Let’s be bold. Let’s try to take storytelling n different directions and offer perspectives of what people don’t normally see.” And I think it was a grand experiment on ABC’s behalf. At the same time, when you look at the show, it’s one of the more reflective shows.
On how network television has changed since Desperate Housewives:
Felicity Huffman: I think when you’re working with someone like John, you just go “yes!” I think great storytelling and great writing will always find an audience. What’s unusual is ABC having the ovaries to back it up and give it to someone like John and “go, do your vision.” I think they’re changing the face of network TV. Things go so quickly. Those two little words “binge-watching” changed everything. People’s appetites are not based on a network, they’re based on content.
You can watch something in many different ways and I think that’s changed the playing field. That’s why this is the golden age of television.
On creating the themes in the second season:
Ridley: We thought about socio-economic issues, sexual orientation, education, and family. Last season was about the dissolution of family, and this season it’s much more about the fusion of families coming together. Last year Felicity took on a character…her ideas and point of views were extremely challenging to say the least. It was important for me to have Felicity play a character [opposite] to what she was playing in the previous [...]
